Town Hall Held

Residents packed the June 11 town hall and pushed back. The decision now sits with the Prichard City Council, with no set date.

How to be counted

Take action

The decision is the City Council’s, with no set date, so a clear and informed public voice now is what counts. If you oppose the project, sign the petition. Either way, contact your council member and show up when the Council meets.

① Sign the petition

This step is for residents who oppose the data center. The petition, “Stop the data center in Prichard,” is a public record of how many residents are against it, and the more names behind it, the harder it is to wave off. If you are undecided or you support the project, the petition is not your tool, but the next two steps, contacting your council member and showing up, are for every resident.

The petition is hosted on Change.org. Signing takes about a minute.

② Contact your council member

Prichard has five single-member districts, and these five members hold the decision. They work for the people of Prichard and Africatown, not for the company. One (District 1) is opposed, and the other four have not said where they stand. Beyond the Council, State Senator Vivian Figures has also spoken against the project. The most valuable thing you can do is tell your member you’re watching this vote.

What to say (copy & adapt)

Hello, my name is ____ and I live in Prichard (District __). I’m calling about Edged’s proposed “Project Gateway” data center on Telegraph Road. I want to make sure this decision is made by Prichard residents, with the full facts in front of us. Before any vote, I’m asking for full public disclosure of the backup diesel generator numbers and emissions, the jobs and wage promises put in writing, and confirmation of exactly what the Council is voting on, with real public notice and a chance to comment. Please don’t let this move forward quietly. Where do you stand?

Full roster and contacts are on the official City of Prichard council page.

③ Show up to council meetings

Public comment in the room and on the record is what “no set date” makes urgent, because the item could appear on an agenda with little notice.
